We had a busy weekend!
Friday night, we all went to dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen. Mom and Dad had pizzas, but I stuck to my ol' fave, sweet potatoes. Funny how we were stuck in the back of the restaurant again...
When we got home, Dad watched Star Wars Episode III, Mom and I did some bonding, and then she and I crashed. When Dad was ready to put the cat to bed in the basement, he was nowhere to be found. Eventually, Mom got up to help him search (sometimes Dad has tunnel vision), but she couldn't find him either.
None of us (well, no one asked me) could remember if we'd seen Sumo after we got back from dinner. Did he sneak out of the house? Or had he fallen victim to "stuff" in the basement that had trapped him? Eventually, around midnight, everyone went to bed, hoping Sumo would be meowing at the basement door in the morning.
But after I had breakfast, Mom went to check the basement, and Sumo wasn't there. He wasn't at the backdoor with Patches either. We called for him out the front door, but to no avail. Mom and Dad walked and drove the neighborhood several times, but still no cat. Mom put up Missing Cat signs and waited by the phone, hoping someone would see him and not decide to keep him.
Eventually, we all went to the animal shelter and waited forever there. Dad took me to see the doggies. They were loud! Sumo wasn't at the shelter. I missed that cat. He's fun to watch.
After several more walks around the neighborhood still didn't turn him up, Mom found another mailbox she hadn't marked. She left with more signs and did another swing by the neighbors with her flashlight. From below the house, two houses down, a pair of eyes reflected out. This was the same house that had two cats near it the night before, so Mom said she wasn't that hopeful. But she approached and called out, "Sumo!" The cat made a noise and moved away. She tried again, and he came out meowing.
It was SUMO! Yay!
He was so happy to come home to a warm house, he even let me pet him this morning.
