Zach 2 Years, Olivia 7 Weeks

Zach's 2nd birthday was on the 23rd of March. We got his 2-year pictures done on the 4th of April. And, since Olivia was there too, we threw her in a couple too!

Happy Easter!

A little behind we are in posting. Somehow, things these days are a little busier. But all is going well. Zach decorated some eggs today, and will tell you "Happy Easter!" And Olivia is a smiling fool. Just not when I can get to the camera.

Check back in a few, maybe I'll have put more on here. Until then, take good care!

Zach's Shoe-Phone Conversation

I listened in as Zach talked on his BrownShoe-phone in the backseat of the car. Here's what I heard:

I’m gonna talk on da phone.

I’m Zachary.
I’m Lightning McQueen.
I’m Buzz.
I’m going to dah store.

Hallo?
It’s a nice day out.
Oh?

I wish I knew when this conversation took place. I'm only guessing 3/2007.

Zach's latest

Background:
The first time Zach seemed to notice me nursing Olivia, we were all sitting at the table having a snack. Zach had asked what Olivia was doing, and I told him she was having a snack too. This has since prompted several requests of snahk tooo? snahk tooo? when he sees her nursing, and...

Main story:
So, Scott's been on a work trip since Monday (it's Wednesday now). Needless to say, it's been a little bit busy around here.

As I was making dinner last night, Olivia was not-so-patiently waiting in her carseat on the kitchen table. Zach has picked up on my saying, "I know, I know" to console Olivia, and he was saying that to her in her carseat. So cute!

I glanced over my shoulder to see what they were up to, and Zach was perched on the chair looking into her chair. He had his shirt hiked up above his chest, and was saying, "Snack, Olivia. Snack," offering her his "boob." What a nice big brother!

Who Knew?

From the I-Never-Thought-I'd-Say-Such-A-Thing category, today I uttered the words,
"Let's go see if we can find that garbage truck, Zach."

Yes, the kids and I were on a Starbucks run (my first caffeine run since the babe was born!) this morning. Oh, we didn't go in the store; thankfully, there's a drive through close to us.

Yackety-Zach was in the backseat commenting on every tack-tuh and skoo bus we passed. Wayd duh tack-tuh goh? Waht ees dat? Wayd duh gah-buj tuck goh? Skoo kids? Ice keem? Wip keem? Stah bucks? Moh-cah? Wip keem? (Yes, they're all questions.)

Olivia slumbered through the whole monologue, and we were out of the house on a nice morning, so I thought we could take our time heading home. And that's when it slipped out: "Let's go see if we can find that garbage truck, Zach." And we did drive down a few streets looking for the blue sanition truck we had passed on our drive to the store.

* * *
We had another one at Pottery Barn Kids, and got called on it! As we left the store, we said goodbye to the stuffed toy Zach had tested out. A mom nearby said, "You wouldn't believe what you say goodbye to these days, do you?"

What have you said?

Snow Storm 2006

Tuesday, December 19th
- The news started talking Big Snow, forecasting 10 – 20 inches of snow in the metro area and a winter storm warning from Wednesday 6am to Thurs 5pm.
- Given that, Scott headed out to the store at 10pm to get a few staples in case we got snowed in.

Wednesday, December 20th
- The warning was upgraded to a blizzard warning for the same time period, and the accumulation predictions were increased to 14 – 24 inches and then 16 – 24.
- At 6am this morning, there was just a dusting on the cars and ground.
- By the time Scott had to leave for a morning meeting at Starbucks, the sky was filled with heavy flakes, and the roads were getting difficult. His meeting was near a grocery store (and probably a different Starbucks), so I had him pick up a couple more supplies, which was looking quite possible. He only had 4 items to purchase and did the self-checkout. Had he had to use the regular lines, he said the wait could have been 20 – 30 minutes!
- At 3:15pm our neighbor snow-blowed ("snow blew?") our driveway! Yay! Scott had shoveled earlier today, but Alan cleared out into the street a little, which is great, though we're still not planning to go anywhere. The street is about a foot to a foot and a half deep.
- I saw at 3:20pm the expected accumulation is up to 18 – 24 inches for the Metro area. We're further west, so generally get more than Denver Metro.
- 3:55pm – 9news says DIA has been closed.
- Patches will not come inside. We've been calling her, and I cleared her a path to get to the door, but she must be holed up. I don't blame her for not wanting to get out of a sheltered spot; the snow is hurling around.
- 5:40pm - with thewind, there's a lot of drifting in the back yard, but our picnic table has about 2 1/2 feet of snow on one end.
- Scott decided to brush the snow off the table before bed, to hopefully save the glass. There must have been 3 feet by then.
- Out the front door, drifting snow has created dunes up our walkway!

Thursday, December 21st
- We woke to snow virtually the same level on the sidewalk, driveways ( so much for snowblowing yesterday), and street. No one had been out in the roads. But by 9am, the snow blowers were in force. And cross-country skiiers and snowshoers, and dogs. Then a few snowmobiles and 4x4's and even some trucks and jeeps.
- Alan cleared (notice I'm avoiding the past tense of "snow-blow") our drive again, and Scott's off for a snowshoe workout around Bear Creek. I'm off to bed. Zach's napping, hopefully getting over his fever/cough/cold.
- Scott measured 29 inches in our yard.

If you click the title, you can see pics. Technical difficulties are preventing me from posting directly to this blog entry...I'll have to add some of the view out the front door later!

I baked gingersnaps (not a snap) and some easy spice cookies (much snappier) for my 6th annual cookie exchange. About 15 of us, plus a few munchkins enjoyed some yummy treats and holiday cheer!

Holiday Concert

Zach's daycare held a holiday concert. In the youngest group (ages 1 and walking to 2), Zach went first. They sang "Jingle Bells" and "Happy Happy Hannukah" and one other song. Afterwards, we got a photo of Zach and his BFF, Ella. Notice they're even wearing matching corderoy and snowman sweaters?
